Bugger off, rain!

The inclement weather is starting to piss me off. This is because I can't wear a pair of shoes I like, as one of them as a hole in the sole, which lets water in.

The search for waterproof shoes is always a difficult one. Don't waste your money on Clarke's - they are shite. I bought a pair of Dr Martin shoes yesterday... let's see if they deliver the goods.

I generally wear my shoes until big holes develop in them, and then I only get around to replacing them when it rains. I'm not talking about some leakage now, I'm talking about holes.

But I actually kind of like the rain in a funny way. One day I realised that I was Irish, and that it was going to rain on me a lot, and I kind of got comfortable with the rain. Now I kind of enjoy it (I know I'm weird).

But in fairness, Irish people are way too obsessed with the weather. I can understand people wanting to stay dry, but I think that with Irish people it goes beyond this to the extent of amounting to a FEAR of the rain.

By the way, I was talking to an Austrian girl recently who introduced me to the concept of 'phatic communication', whereby people make conversation that is devoid of any content. Her assessment (and this is her area of academic expertise) is that Irish people have a serious tendency towards phatic communication, and particularly with regard to our favourite subject of conversation and the subject of your blog post.

I don't fear the rain; I just like my feet getting wet. And I like those shoes.
